The government of Pakistan’s Sindh province has canceled the auction process for extracting red granite stones from the Karunjhar mountain range in the desert district of Thar.
Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon while talking to reporters in the Sindh Assembly on Monday said that the auction of granite has been canceled because the projects which will be against the aspirations of the people or which will affect the people will not be supported.
Provincial Minister of Minerals Mir Shabbir Bajarani while talking to BBC said that recommendations were made to the ministerial committee in this regard which will soon be presented to the provincial cabinet, after which the cabinet will take a decision.
It may be noted that last Sunday several newspapers published advertisements for the auction of red granite stones from a hill area covering 2700 acres in Nangarparkar area of Tharparkar district, against which there was a strong reaction.
