The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif, in an interview given to the journalist Asma Shirazi on the private TV channel Aaj News, has said in response to a question that the election should be conducted under the new census.
Shahbaz Sharif said that this is a matter of the Council of Common Interests and it is hoped that a meeting of the CCI will be held (in this regard).
The prime minister has further said that ‘as soon as the results (of the new census) are completed, then this (matter) will be taken to the CCI.’
In response to a question, Shahbaz Sharif said that when the census has been done, then the elections should also be held under it and now the ball is in the court of the Election Commission as to how long it can ensure the conduct of the elections.
Shahbaz Sharif said that it is the discretion of the Election Commission to make constituencies and hold elections, there is no justification for delaying the elections.
According to political observers, if the results of the new census are notified, it will become difficult to hold elections in 90 days. However, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said in his interview that ‘we are fulfilling the constitutional requirements for elections in 90 days.’
A committee has been formed to set up the caretaker.
Shahbaz Sharif said that the government is about to complete its term, the government will complete its term on August 12, and a committee has been formed for the caretaker setup, while consultation with Nawaz Sharif is also ongoing in this regard, the name will be finalized. But opposition leader Raja Riaz will be spoken to.
