The increase in wheat production in Pakistan comes at a time when the price of flour in the country is at the highest level in the country’s history. The data of the Federal Bureau of Statistics also confirms the increase in the record price of flour in the country.
According to the organization, the price of flour in the last week of April this year is 175% higher than the last week of April last year and the price of flour per kg in different cities of the country ranges from Rs 125 kg to Rs 150 kg.
Experts reject the decline in flour prices after the increase in wheat production in the current season. He said that due to arrival of new crop, there may be a slight decrease for some time, but it may increase further in the coming months due to hoarding and profiteering instead of market principles in wheat trade.
It should be noted that the Prime Minister has directed strict action against the hoarders.
Mahmood Nawaz Shah ruled out the possibility that a small increase in wheat production would lead to any reduction in the price of flour. According to him, the wheat hoarders ‘think ahead of the government and for this the government will have to take measures now.’
He said that the production is not enough to meet the country’s need. “The consumption of wheat in Pakistan is increasing by 7 to 10 percent per year and according to this calculation, if last year this consumption was 30 million, then this year it will be 30 million 32 million tons.”
He said that the government brings (new) wheat to the market in August and thereafter, so it should bring its wheat to the market in June-July so that the wheat supply system can be improved and the people who buy wheat can buy it. By storing and waiting for its price to rise, they may be forced to bring their wheat into the market.’

He said that the support price will be Rs 4000 per maan from Rs 2200 per maan last year. Adding up the total costs, the farmer’s cost per maund comes to Rs.2500.
Shams said that for the past few years, the cartels and mafias involved in wheat trade have become so weak that they have the ability to collect wheat from the market and store it and then control the market and create a flour crisis. Do and take advantage of this situation.
Shams said that in order to control the price of flour, the government must first come out of this support price formula because by increasing the price, the government is fueling the possibility of high price of flour and along with it, it has to take some administrative measures.
